- Rifle: Mark V Ult. Lightweight
- Caliber: .240 Wby. Mag.
- Range: NA
Roy Weatherby’s Mark V® action changed the face of American firearms. Introduced in 1958, billed as “the world’s strongest bolt action,” it features three rings of steel surrounding the casehead, fluted bolt body with three gas ports, and nine locking lugs (six on non-magnum models) for a short 54-degree bolt lift. For the ultimate in speed and power, particularly on the biggest and most dangerous game, the Weatherby Mark V Magnum system has no equal. Today, the Mark V is also available in standard calibers, ideal for those who require less power; desire less weight or who hunt in mountainous terrain. Our standard caliber action gives big game and varmint hunters all the inherent benefits of the Mark V in a size that accommodates up to .30-06 cartridge length (including the .240 Wby. Mag.)

All Weatherby® Mark V® rifles are guaranteed to shoot a 1 1/2" OR BETTER 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel when used with premium (non-Weatherby calibers) or Weatherby factory ammunition.

Cocking Indicator — An industry first! Visually indicates whether rifle is cocked or uncocked.
Fully Enclosed Bolt Sleeve — Completely enshrouds rear of action to redirect high-pressure gases and brass particles in the event of a case rupture.
Direct Striker Intervention Safety — Offers direct, positive locking of the firing pin. Locks bolt in engaged position and disengages the sear to render the trigger inoperable. Safety operates easily with a rolling action of the thumb, and is virtually silent with a controlled release.
Three Rings of Steel — The cartridge casehead is surrounded by the recessed bolt face, barrel, and forged and machined steel receiver. Creates an extra measure of strength and structural integrity
Integral Recoil Lug — One-piece forged and machined receiver features integral recoil lug for the utmost in strength and structural integrity.
Floorplate/Triggerguard Assembly — One-piece alloy triggerguard frame offers exceptional strength and fit and finish. Triggerguard is engraved with flying “W” monogram—one of the custom touches you get with a Weatherby Mark V rifle.
Fluted Bolt Body — Features three gas ports to allow high-pressure gases to escape laterally in the event of an accidental case rupture. Longitudinal flutes reduce weight and bearing surface area while minimizing binding for smooth action.
Positive Cartridge Extraction — Extracts the cartridge and ejects the fired case without the necessity of full bolt retraction.
Field or Target Crown — All Mark V® rifles are finished with one of three crown options. These concentrically-perfect crowns protect the muzzle/exit hole of the rifle and allow gases to escape to improve accuracy potential. The Mark V® Accumark and Ultra Lightweight rifles feature a recessed target crown (top). The Mark V® Super Varmintmaster (SVM), Special Varmint Rifle (SVR), and Compact Firing Platform (CFP) rifles feature an 11-degree parabolic target crown (middle). The Mark V® Synthetic, Fibermark, Deluxe, Sporter, Lazermark, and Ultramark rifles feature a radius field crown (bottom).
Factory-tuned, Fully Adjustable Trigger — Allows for precise adjustment of sear engagement (factory set at .008 to .014) and let-off weight (factory set at approximately 3.5 pounds). You get a clean, crisp trigger that will break precisely…a key component in delivering improved accuracy and improved shooter performance. (Additional sear engagement adjustments must be performed by a Weatherby Service Center or a qualified gunsmith).
- Can I send my rifle back to Weatherby for rebluing and installation of a new stock?
Yes - your rifle can be sent to Weatherby for refurbishing or modification.
- Does Weatherby have an accuracy guarantee, and what should I do if my rifle does not shoot within the guarantee?
All Weatherby (Mark V® and Vanguard®) rifles are guaranteed to shoot a 1 1/2" (or better) 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel when used with Weatherby factory ammunition. For Weatherby rifles chambered in non-Weatherby calibers, the guarantee is effective when premium loads are used. All Weatherby® Vanguard rifles come with a factory-shot, 3-shot target as your assurance of accuracy. If for some reason your rifle does not shoot within the guarantee, Weatherby advises you to send the rifle to a Weatherby-authorized service center. After being tested by the service center, if indeed it does not shoot within the guarantee and the rifle has not been altered, the service center will repair the rifle under warranty, or forward it to the factory for inspection and replacement approval, if deemed necessary.
Select models (SUB-MOA) are guaranteed to shoot .99" or less at 100 yards when used with specified Weatherby factory or premium ammunition (3-shot group).- Weatherby offers rifles in standard caliber chamberings. Do they make ammunition for them?
Weatherby currently manufactures ammunition for Weatherby Magnum calibers only, and has no intentions to manufacture on an ongoing basis standard cartridge ammunition. Weatherby recommends you purchase premium standard cartridge ammunition from a high quality ammunition manufacturer.
NOTE: Weatherby did produce a small run of non-Weatherby caliber ammunition in 1997. Calibers included: .270 Win., .30-06 Spfd., 7mm Rem. Mag., .300 Win. Mag., .338 Win. Mag., and .375 H&H Mag.- Will Weatherby ever make left-handed rifles again, if so what calibers?
All Weatherby Mark V® rifles (.257 Wby. Mag. - .460 Wby. Mag.) can be ordered as a left-hand model. For more information, please call the Weatherby Custom Shop at (805) 227-2600.

There are Weatherby-authorized Accubrake installation centers located across the United States. You can have an Accubrake installed on your rifle at any one of these centers or in the Weatherby Custom Shop in Paso Robles, CA. The work done by these centers is the same as would be done by the factory and the warranty of the rifle would still be in place. A list of these authorized installation centers can be found on this web site or you can call Weatherby for a list.
- Does Weatherby still make rifle scopes? If not, what scope do they recommend?
Weatherby no longer manufactures scopes, nor do we promote any particular brand of scope. We do recommend, however, due to the amount of recoil sometimes experienced with the larger magnum rifles, you choose a well-made, high quality scope.
- When was my Weatherby firearm manufactured?
You can learn the history and lineage of your Weatherby firearm, researched and authenticated through the Weatherby company records. You’ll receive an embossed letter of authenticity which verifies the country of origin, the date your firearm was shipped, where the firearm was originally delivered and a list of features, including any custom embellishments. Each certificate is personally signed by Roy E. Weatherby, Jr., President, and Dean Rumbaugh, Company Historian. Cost for each serial number search is $50 ($75 for Custom rifles, $100 for Special Edition or Commemorative rifles). You may print and mail the Authenticity Order Form or for information, write Company Historian, 1605 Commerce Way, Paso Robles, CA 93446.
Additional historical information can also be gathered from Weatherby. The Man. The Gun. The Legend.
